Can it get any colder in Yass!!!
Beating the cold has been a pleasant mixture of loading up in the new Mercedes Sprinter and heading out to the reaches of Australia to run in Beta Test Days, RetroMX, Mag shoots and Enduro racing (vintage and modern). Tough life?
One of the best aspects has been seeing the surprise and genuine appreciation of the Beta’s in both magazine tests and the general test rider. Takes a while but people are now realising how awesome these bikes are. I have the luxury of swapping out to the 2012 Factory Edition from the 400RR Factory Edition (2011). Just like it the only problem I have is not wanting to get off it.
The last official duty for the 2011 FE 400RR was the Transmoto 12hour. I went Pairs, with Nathan from Yass, and we managed 13th in Class. Happy with that, and super happy with finishing. The only regret is I haven’t raced any of the Leaping Log rounds this year…clashes with the RetroMx. The next Enduro will be the Nowra 8 Hour in October. Looking forward to that.
The other new Enduro scene I have found is Vinduro. Great atmosphere and some uber-cool bikes, that for some of I didn’t even know they existed, like a Moto Villa etc. I prepared a 1983 KDX250 for the Harrow Vinduro in Victoria and had a ball on it for a Gold Medal finish..
We have been proud to be associated with Tayla Jones in her efforts in the AROC and Australian MX scene. She has had an outstanding year and recently won the Hattah Desert Race (Women’s Division).. Go Tayla!!!
The RetroMX on the Kawasaki KX500 is progressing well. I have been able to get good starts but fade to 5th/6th pretty consistently. The only plus is that the leaders are in sight at the finish so I have a target!!! We have raced Canberra, Clarence and Maitland. All good tracks and a great bunch of people. Currently sitting in 5th Outright and 3rd in class.
