NSW State Trials Titles Pacific Park

Pacific Park in the outskirts of Sydney played host to the NSW State Trials Titles on the weekend. With a bumper number of entries (103) covering Juniors thru to Veterans 60+ the 10 section course was pretty well subscribed.  Warm weather and a late start had a few timing out at the end of the day and for myself, a bit flustered trying to remember the sections. The second day had a new set of 10 sections that had some rewarding obstacles and tight turns..I became better at remembering them.

In no particular order the things that I had forgotten on Trials started to come back;

– Try to stay calm and not “crack it” at mistakes…Take a Three and not get the sh%ts and storm out on a five…

– Navigate, and as Gary Boniface reminded me “walk the whole section”  (need to get Trials boots for this)

– Smooth and wide turns and remember second gear is usable…

– Hand plants count as a dab, as do tree leans !!

– 200 metre wheelies between sections are frowned on…

– There is a rule called “crossed lines”

– The best bunch of people do Trials …

So I ended up 5th in the V2 class 40-49 age group… I had a cricket score but I was happy to “clean” some sections that other people couldn’t, made up for with some devastating guard cracking fails as well.

The Beta 300 Factory Edition performed faultlessly.  I found the bike was inspiring to ride and really helped me in getting back into Trials.

One of the best things was re-connecting with the people of Trials….all the names were still there.. Gary Boniface, Trev Bennett, and Bev Anderson. The efforts of Dickon Neill can’t go understated as well. He made sure he had a space for me to park up, followed me around the Sections, encouraged and calmed me. Grabbed me a beer at the end of the day and looked after my family… Thank you very much. Clever man as well since we supplied him a RR Beta 300 earlier in the year.!!
